Overview
The EU Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet is a framework under the revised eIDAS regulation that lets citizens and organisations store and present verified credentials — such as identity attributes, diplomas, or professional qualifications — from a secure digital wallet on their own device.
Digdir (the Norwegian Digitalisation Agency) operates a national sandbox that allows public and private organisations to experiment with wallet-based flows: issuing credentials, requesting attributes, and verifying presentations in a controlled, non-production environment.

What relying parties need to know
A relying party is any service that requests and verifies credentials presented from a user's wallet. If you are integrating with the Digdir sandbox alongside Equinor, the following applies.

Register with the Digdir sandbox
Onboard your service as a relying party and obtain sandbox client credentials and endpoints.

Define the credentials you require
Specify which attributes or credential types your service will request during a presentation.

Implement the presentation flow
Use the OpenID for Verifiable Presentations (OpenID4VP) protocol to request and receive credentials.

Verify and validate
Check signatures, trust chains, and freshness before trusting the presented data.
Important
All data and credentials in the sandbox are for testing purposes. Do not use production personal data, and do not treat sandbox verifications as legally binding.
Equinor's role & goals
Equinor participates in the Digdir sandbox to understand how the EUDI Wallet could improve secure, privacy-preserving identity and credential exchange across our digital services.
- Evaluate wallet-based authentication and credential presentation for relevant use cases.
- Reduce friction in onboarding and verification while improving user privacy.
- Assess interoperability with Norwegian and European identity infrastructure.
- Share learnings with partners and relying parties collaborating in the sandbox.
As part of the pilot, Equinor is exploring issuing affiliation attributes (such as employee or contractor status) and investigating qualifications and certifications as verifiable credentials.
